The Impala’s power steering fluid is green. apparently coolant leaks into the p/s was an issue on F-bodies but not possible on B-bodies. Ugh... updates later/tomorrow. its possible that a green fluid was used to top it off. I checked it after a sudden quick loss of power steering (a second) then getting it back. The box appears to be seeping fluid, maybe time to save up for an upgrade.

How does coolant get into the PS reservoir? Does it have a cooler in the radiator or something?

on the f bodies a tube of power steering fluid is run through one of the radiator hoses. eventually that leaks. it was a rash conclusion, apparently they make green ps fluid which is much more likely (the high pressure line was replaced by a shop about a year ago)

The MR2 has a similar solution for the oil cooler. It runs the oil through the coolant return line, but as far as I can tell that’s just a solid metal pipe going through with nowhere to leak in the coolant hose. 80s ‘Yota though, so I’m sure they found a way to make it rust.
